TITLE:                     Discussion and possible action regarding the schedule, length, and time of Commission Regular Meetings.

Recommended Action

Recommend following a similar pattern for our Regular Commission Meetings, that the Sarasota County Commissioners use.  They utilize a two-day system which has a natural way of easing the amount of time used within their meetings.  By limiting either the amount of items discussed on the agenda, daily, or setting a limit to the amount of hours for each session, it would alleviate the length of the Regular Commission Meetings held by our Commission.  I would recommend that the start time of each meeting remain the same, though start the second day, at the opposite time. If all items were addressed within the first day, the second day would be cancelled.

Background Information

There is a lot of unfavorable discussion within the community in regards to the length of the Commission Meetings, both the Regular Meetings and the Special Meetings.  Organizing our structure, would show the community that we not only respect and care about the community attendees, but also, the added hours of staff time, as well as, the clarity of our decision-making processes.
