Approve a three-year agreement, with two (2) one (1) year renewals, with Global Emergency Medical Services, LLC. to provide medical direction services for the City of North Port Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Services in the amount of f $40,000 for the first year and a three percent increase for years two and three of the contract.

Background Information

Chapter 401 of the Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code 640-1.004 require the appointment of a licensed physician as Medical Director for Emergency Medical Service Providers.

After decades of service to the emergency medical service communities of Sarasota County and the City of North Port, our medical director, Stephen R. Newman, MD is retiring. In advance of the contract's expiration, we have examined options for medical direction for our department. A medical practice containing numerous Board-certified emergency physicians has been selected to assume this role. The practice will provide an enhanced level of coverage in addition to the 24/7/365 on-call service: increased participation in training and ride-along with our paramedics, attendance at State-level meetings, in-service medical classes and oversight and guidance through quality improvement program (which ties to our request for a full-time Quality Improvement Officer position SLA EMS 19-2203).

The proposed agreement provides annual compensation for Global Emergency Medical Services, LLC. The first-year fee is $40,000 with 3% increases over each of the next two years. The agreement has a separation clause ...
