Background Information

Florida Statutes Section 683.04 designates the third Friday in January as Florida’s Arbor Day. The weather can be cold and many of the trees appear bare; and the current Arbor Day date makes tree plantings and celebrations at schools and other community events difficult. The City Arborist finds that a more appropriate date for Florida’s Arbor Day should be sometime in early April, when the weather is beautiful and trees are in full bloom. April would also be a more ideal time to hold Arbor Day events at our local schools because of the students’ testing schedule.
