Consideration and possible direction related to the submissions received from the Advisory Boards for a Tribute/Infinity Wall, Bricks or Artwork display at the North Port Aquatic Center.

Background Information

During the City Commission Special Meeting on June 6, 2019 a motion was made to direct staff to ask the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Art Advisory Board and Historic & Cultural Advisory Board to look at a Tribute/Infinity Wall or Bricks or Artwork, to meet the goals of the Commission; for staff to provide the Boards an overall map of the Aquatic Center including the inside and outside amenities for the Boards to determine the best location for whatever they choose to be placed to have something in place at the Aquatic Center for a lifetime and to be brought back to the Commission for a decision first Thursday in September.

Parks & Recreation staff presented information to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on June 20, to the Arts Advisory Board on July 9, and to the Historic and Cultural Advisory Board on July 11, 2019. In addition to sharing Commission direction, staff provided an overview of the North Port Aquatic Center facility layout and amenities.

Ideas were received verbally from the Historic and Cultural Advisory Board, while the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board provided both written and visual submissions. The Arts Advisory Board declined to provide suggestions at this time. Attachment 1, Advisory Board Ideas and Suggestions, provides a summary of the submissions received.
