TITLE:                                          Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Draft Redistricting Maps.

Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action regarding draft redistricting maps.

Background Information

Per City Charter, the City Commission shall approve a redistricting plan by ordinance, if a substantial change is proven, no later than 10 months (300 days) following each decennial census published results.  The 2020 Census data showed the current Commission Districts to be outside of the deviation in population base on average population among the districts.

The City hired the consulting firm ARCBridge Consulting & Training Inc. to draft redistricting maps. A redistricting website has been made available to the public for inspection and comment on the draft maps.

Adoption of a redistricting plan is anticipated for a first reading in January 2022.  Any adopted redistricting plan will take effect for any election held at least one (1) year following the plan's final approval.
