Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action regarding the recruitment, qualifications and salary parameters for the new City Attorney executive search.

Background Information

During the City Commission Regular Meeting held on September 10, 2024, the Commission approved a motion to direct City Manager to work with Human Resources Department in selecting a recruiting firm and schedule an agenda item for discussion regarding qualification parameters and a recommended salary range. Doug Thomas of SGR has prepared the attached proposal for recruitment of a new City Attorney. In addition, Mr. Thomas will work with the Human Resources Department to create a recruitment brochure to post the City Attorney vacancy. Mr. Thomas is scheduled to be available virtually for this meeting and will provide a short PowerPoint presentation which will include qualifications and salary parameters for the new City Attorney. In addition, Mr. Thomas will respond to Commissioners' questions and feedback about the desired candidate profile.

Financial Impact

Funds in the amount not-to-exceed $27,150 will be available in general fund account 001-0200-514-31.05, subject to the approval of the FY2024-2025 annual budget.

Procurement

The recruitment services from SGR will be procured under City of North Port Procurement Code Section 2-403 - Exemptions which states that certain procurements shall not be subject to competitive requirements in the judgment of the Purchasing Agent.
