Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action regarding the completion of design development for the new Police Department Headquarters.

Background Information

As directed by City Commission, North Port Police Department staff have been working with Schenkel & Shultz on the design development for the new Police Department Headquarters. The following provides a chronological order of events pertinent to the new Police Department Headquarters:

> April 12, 2022: The parties entered into Agreement No. 2021-17 Professional Architectural and Engineering Service for City of North Port Police Department Facilities ("Original Agreement") for architectural and engineering services and construction administration services for renovation of the existing North Port Police Department facility and design of the new Emergency Operations Center ("EOC"), 911 telecommunications center, and evidence facility.

> March 2, 2023: During the City Commission Special Meeting, agenda item 23-0262, the recommendation to build an entirely new Police Headquarters and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) facility, in lieu of renovating and expanding the current Headquarters, was presented to Commission. At the conclusion of Commission's discussion, the following motions were approved:

* Motion 1: Direct the City Manager to proceed with the facility needs of the North Port Police Station to expand at a new location to be determined. On April 25, 2023, Commission approved the First Amendment to Agreement No. 2021-17 to expand the scope of service, time and related fees of Schenkel & Shultz ("Consultant"), to allow Consultant to begin environmental evaluations on selected parcels for a new Police Headquarters.
