TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action to award funds from the Special Event Assistance Program to People for Trees, Inc. to cover the costs of City fees and/or resources associated with the October 20, 2019, 10th annual Tour de North Port event.
Recommended Action
Consider the request made by People for Trees, Inc. for funding assistance through the Special Event Assistance Program to cover the cost of City fees and or resources associated with the October 20, 2019 event.
Background Information
The Special Event Assistance Program Guidelines and application were informally adopted by City Commission on November 25, 2013 and formally adopted by Commission on September 11, 2018 by Resolution No. 2018-R-17. The intent of the program is to encourage cultural, educational, environmental and recreational activities in the City and to help provide recovery of costs associated with City services and resources that are needed with a special event.
People for Trees, Inc. is requesting funding assistance in the amount of $500.00 to cover the costs of fees and or City services associated with their Tour de North Port cyclist racing event. The event is scheduled to be held on October 20, 2019. The estimated attendance for this event is 400 per the application submitted. Based on this expected attendance and in accordance with the Special Events Assistance Program Guidelines on page 2, the applicant is eligible for funding up to $500.00.

Financial Impact
City Commission budgeted funds in account 001-0100-511-49-13 for Community Assistance in the current fiscal year's budget in the amount of $5,000.00, of which $500.00 is expected to be used for this event.
