Background Information

During the City Commission Regular Meeting held on January 10, 2023, the City Commission granted approval of Consent Agenda item number 23-0008, Authorize City Manager to submit the Price Boulevard Waterway and Myakkahatchee Bridge Hardening Improvements Project for consideration in the Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations Request.

Initially proposed at $15 million, the project scope included the reconstruction of drainage under Price Boulevard at the Blueridge Waterway, McCaughey Waterway, Lagoon Waterway, and Creighton Waterway, and the rehabilitation of the Myakkahatchee Creek Bridge. However, in light of financial constraints at the state level, City staff, in collaboration with our Lobbyist and state officials, engaged in negotiations to refine the project scope and reduce costs. Consequently, the revised project scope excluded the Myakkahatchee Creek Bridge project, while retaining the reconstruction of drainage under Price Boulevard at the Blueridge Waterway, McCaughey Waterway, Lagoon Waterway, and Creighton Waterway. The funding request for Fiscal Year 2024 was reduced and approved for $1.5 million.
