Recommended Action

Approve Amendment No. 2 to Contract 2020-38 with Zep Construction, Inc. in the Amount of $19,015.00 for the Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant (MCWTP) Structural Rehabilitation Project Phase 1 - Flocculation Tank No. 1 Repairs, for a Total Project Cost of $182,245.18.

Background Information

On May 12, 2020, Commission approved Contract 2020-38 with Zep Construction, Inc. in the amount of $139,953.00, with a contingency of $13,995.00, for a total project cost of $153,948.00 for the MCWTP Structural Rehabilitation Project Phase 1 - Flocculation Tank No. 1 Repairs. This project includes repairs to the flocculation tank recommended by CDM Smith as part of the 2019 structural analysis, including: demolishing and removing the existing concrete masonry unit (CMU) baffle walls and floor slab, replacing and recompacting displaced soil, constructing a new reinforced concrete structural slab and baffle wall, removing existing coating from all interior concrete surfaces, repairing spalls, gouges and cracks, repairing eroded concrete surfaces, and coating the interior of the tank using a polyurethane coating.

On September 8, 2020, Commission approved Contract Amendment No. 1 in the amount of $23,277.18. for additional work needed due to unforeseen sub-grade conditions. This additional work added five days to completion time.

During the construction process, field measurements performed by the contractor and verified by the project consultant, CDM Smith, Inc., have shown that the calculation of the square footage in the original bid quantities for Item No. 2B - C...
