Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action approving the design and placement of a Mural at Quality TV Sales and Service located at 14212 Tamiami Trail, North Port, Florida.

Background Information

Mayor Luke requested this item be brought to the Commission for discussion. North Port Artist Laura Pommier has been chosen as the Artist to complete the "First 1000 Days Mural" in North Port that is to be financed by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Attached for review are the Artist's original submissions and subsequent character detail. The final design of the piece will be completed once the actual dimensions have been obtained.

Commission approval is required according to the Code of the City of North Port, Florida, Section 29-10. - Permitted permanent signs, subsection G. auxiliary signs.

(11) Murals. Murals are permitted subject to the following:

(a) Shall be approved by City Commission for artistic design and placement prior to the issuance of a permit in accordance with Sec. 29-11, Sec. 29-17 and Sec. 29-18.

(b) Shall not extend beyond the wall space. There shall be no part of the artwork projecting from the building in any direction.

(c) Shall not advertise any specific product.

(d) Shall not be on the side of the building that has the main entrance. Mural enhancements that reflect the architecture and design of the area are encouraged.
