Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action regarding the recommendation to increase Building permit fees resulting from the Building Permit Fee Study.

Background Information

As recommended and approved in the FY21 budget, the City Commission directed the Neighborhood Development Services Department to secure a contract for a consultant to perform a Building Permit Fee Study. The Neighborhood Development Services Department (NDS) worked with the Purchasing Division to send out RLI 2021-01, Building Permit Fee Study. The solicitation was sent out to current consultants within the City North Port library that offer these types of services. NDS received one response to the RLI from Govrates. This presentation is the result of the study, along with the consultant’s recommendation to increase Building permit fees to keep pace with operating expenses, fund major capital needs, and maintain healthy reserves. Further, the study recommends the support of an annual review of fees by City Staff to ensure that the fees remain equitable and reasonable.
