Recommended Action
Approve plan for decommissioning and removing the fountain at Veteran’s Park.
Background Information
During the Commission Regular Meeting held on September 8, 2020, the Commission directed staff to turn off the water to the fountain/waterfall at Veteran's Park and bring back a memo explaining how the feature will be decommissioned and removed.
Pursuant to the Commission's directive, please be advised that staff has completed the following tasks:
1. During the week of September 14, 2020, the Infrastructure and Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division staff of the Public Works Department disconnected the water to the fountain at Veteran's Park.
2. Memorandum explaining how the fountain at Veteran’s Park will be decommissioned and removed was prepared. (Refer to Attachment 1).
3. Plan for Decommissioning and Removing the Fountain at Veteran's Park
A. Tasks
a) Remove the entire fountain wall and basin.
b) Fill the area with decorative rock to match the existing decorative rock.
B. Workforce to Complete Project
a) Infrastructure and Facilities Maintenance and Operations Division staff of the Department of Public Works.

D. Project Completion Time
a) The Project will be completed within two weeks of the Commission's approval of the
Plan for Decommissioning and Removing the Fountain at Veteran's Park.

Financial Impact
The Infrastructure and Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division staff will be performing this work utilizing existing equipment during normal business hours. It will not be necessary to rent any additional equipment.
Procurement
The Infrastructure and Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division staff and existing equipment including a 313-wheel excavator, dump truck and pickup truck will be utilized to perform the work described above in the Plan for Decommissioning and Removing the Fountain at Veteran’s Park.
