Option 1: Approve Resolution 2026-R-43 as presented.

 

City Commission Options

 

Option 1: Approve Resolution 2026-R-43 as presented.

                     Pros: The City can move forward with the Myakkahatchee Creek Bridge and Price Widening project.

                     Cons: Funding allocated to other road rehabilitation projects will be reduced.

Option 2: Deny Resolution 2026-R-43 as presented.

                     Pros: Funds could be utilized to rehabilitate additional roads as part of the Road Rehabilitation Program.

                     Cons: The City may be unable to complete construction of the Myakkahatchee Creek Bridge and Price Widening project by the grant deadline and, therefore, forfeit the grant funding awarded to the project.

 

Background Information

 

The Department of Public Works seeks to amend the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Road & Drainage District Budget to reallocate $4,550,000 in appropriated funds from the Road Rehab Program to Myakkahatchee Creek Bridge and Price Widening Project R25MCB. The reallocated funds will support the widening of Price Boulevard from Sumter Boulevard to the Myakkahatchee Creek bridge crossing. This project has also been awarded $10,304,000 in CDBG-DR funding through the Sarasota County Resilient SRQ subrecipient grant program for reconstruction of the bridge. The scope of work within Road Rehab Program projects R25RRH and R26RRH will be reduced by $1,200,000 and $3,350,000, respectively.

 

Resolution 2026-R-43 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.

 

Resolution 2026-R-43 was submitted to the City Clerk’s Office on June 2, 2026, for signature, subject to Commission approval.
