TITLE: Amended and Restated Requested Operational and Voluntary Cooperation Agreement with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Longboat Key Police Department, North Port Police Department, Sarasota Police Department, Venice Police Department, Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority, New College of Florida, and the Sarasota County Schools Police Department.
Recommended Action
Approve the Amended and Restated Requested Operational and Voluntary Cooperation Agreement with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Longboat Key Police Department, North Port Police Department, Sarasota Police Department, Venice Police Department, Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority, New College of Florida, and the Sarasota County Schools Police Department.
Background Information
The North Port Police Department and Sarasota County Law Enforcement Agencies, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Longboat Key Police Department, Sarasota Police Department, Venice Police Department, Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority, New College of Florida, and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, have the authority under Florida Statutes, Chapter 23, Part 1, to enter into the Amended and Restated Requested Operational Assistance and Voluntary Cooperation Agreement which allows all parties to cross jurisdictional lines in order to assist and protect citizens of both Jurisdictions should such assistance be requested by either law enforcement entity.
The original Requested Operational and Voluntary Cooperation Agreement was signed in 1996 with seven renewals and was last dated in 2017. The First Amended Requested Operational and Voluntary Cooperation Agreement was signed in 1998. All are attached.
The duration of the agreement is January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2023.
The Amended and Restated Agreement includes the terms of the previous agreement (with amendments and extensions) and contains some new language in order to harmonize it with the Manatee County Master Mutual Aid Agreement.
The agreement has been reviewed by the City Attorney as to form and content.

Financial Impact
Under the agreement there is no cost for participating agencies when resources are requested from other participants, however each participating agency does cover the cost of their own staff and resources used in the provision of the requested mutual aid.
