Option 1: Approve the Second Amendment to Lease Agreement by and Between the City of North Port, Florida, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc. for Space at the Family Service Center, 6619 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287.

 

                     Pros: Maintaining a Lease with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc. ensures the continuity of crucial services to North Port residents.

                     Cons: Providing discounted access to City-owned property through a Lease Agreement with Big Brothers Big Sisters limits the City’s ability to use the space for staff or programs, or to make it available to another entity to offer alternative services to residents.

 

Option 2:  Deny the Second Amendment to Lease Agreement by and Between the City of North Port, Florida, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc. for Space at the Family Service Center, 6619 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287.

 

                     Pros: Creates the capacity for reallocation, either within the organization or to another tenant, allowing it to be used for services that meet community needs.

                     Cons: Removes access to a crucial program serving the youth population in North Port.

 

Background Information

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc., helps children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact. Children receive mentoring services through their community and school-based mentoring programs. 

 

The tenant Lease Agreement expired on October 31, 2024. The lease term was amended to extend the Lease by one additional year, expiring on October 31, 2025. This Second Amendment extends the term of the current Lease Agreement by one year, expiring on October 31, 2026.  The lease amount of $95/per month is unchanged from the previous Lease Agreement. Once a City-wide standardized lease policy takes effect, the Agreement will need to come back to Commission for approval under the new terms.

 

The Second Amendment to Lease Agreement by and Between the City of North Port, Florida, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc., for Space at the Family Service Center, 6619 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287 has been reviewed by the Interim City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.

 

The Second Amendment to Lease Agreement by and Between the City of North Port, Florida, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc. for Space at the Family Service Center, 6619 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287 was provided to the City Clerk's Office on October 14, 2025, for signature subject to City Commission approval.
