TITLE:                     Approve the Memorandum of Agreement Between the Florida Department of Corrections and the City of North Port, Florida with Regard to the Administration of Criminal Justice and Reentry Services in Sarasota County, Florida.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Memorandum of Agreement Between the Florida Department of Corrections and the City of North Port, Florida.

 

Background Information

 

The purpose of this interagency agreement is to establish a community partnership between the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) and the City of North Port Police Department. It will further promote the common goal of improving the administration of criminal justice and offender reentry services in Sarasota County. This will be accomplished by increasing the efficiency of the interaction between the Department of Corrections and the City of North Port Police Department and by facilitating the following:

 

1.                     the exchange of information and records between both organizations,

 

2.                     the utilization of a team problem-solving approach to address issues facing each organization and the criminal justice system, and

 

3.                     the enhancement of public safety by working together to apprehend probationers, parolees, conditional releasees and any other offenders under the supervision of the DOC who have violated supervision terms established by the applicable sentencing authority.

 

This agreement will supersede the current agreement that expires on June 29, 2023. It will remain in effect until June 29, 2028, and can be renewed for an additional five years upon written agreement of both parties.

 

The Memorandum of Agreement Between the Florida Department of Corrections and the City of North Port, Florida has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
