TO: Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission
FROM: Peter D. Lear, CPA, CGMA, City Manager
TITLE: Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force (CETF) Memorandum of Understanding.
Recommended Action
Approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Child Exploitation Task Force (CETF) and the City of North Port.
Background Information
The purpose of the MOU is to formalize working relationships between our federal partners in order to achieve maximum cooperation in a combined law enforcement effort aimed at combating internet and technology crimes against children in the State of Florida and nationwide.
The CETF mission is to provide a rapid, proactive and intelligence-driven investigative response to the sexual victimization of children and other crimes against children within the FBI’s jurisdiction; to rescue child victims; to reduce the vulnerability of children to sexual exploitation and abuse; and to strengthen the capabilities of the FBI and federal, state, local and international law enforcement agencies through training, intelligence-sharing, technical support, and investigative assistance.
A sworn member of the North Port Police Department will be selected as a CETF member and will have worksite locations both at the North Port Police Department and at the Sarasota FBI field office.
This proposed MOU has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney as to form and correctness.
Strategic Plan
Maintain the adopted level of health and public safety services.
Financial Impact
The FBI and the City of North Port agree to assume all personnel costs for their CETF representatives, including salaries, overtime payments, and fringe benefits consistent with their respective agency.
