Recommended Action

 

Approve the Third Amendment to the Lease Agreement by and Between the City of North Port, Florida,  and the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County for Space at the Family Service Center, 6919 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287.

 

City Commission Options

 

Option 1: Approve the Third Amendment to the Lease Agreement by and between the City of North Port, Florida, and the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County for Space at the Family Service Center, 6919 Outreach Way, North Port, Florida, 34287.

 

                     Pros: Maintaining a lease with the Department of Health ensures the continuity of crucial services to North Port residents.

                     Cons: Providing discounted access to City-owned property through a Lease Agreement with the Department of Health limits the City’s ability to use the space for staff or programs, or to make it available to another entity to offer alternative services to residents.

Background Information

 

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, through the federally funded Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program, provides services to North Port residents at the Family Service Center. This program provides healthy foods, nutrition education, referrals for healthcare and community services, breastfeeding support, and counseling at no charge to clients.

 

The lease amount of $1,194.63 per month is unchanged from the previous Lease Agreement. The First Amendment to the Lease Agreement expired on August 31, 2025. A Second Amendment was made extending the terms of the Lease Agreement by one year and will expire on August 31, 2026. This Third Amendment was created to extend the lease terms by one additional one-year term, expiring on August  31, 2027. Once a City-wide standardized Lease Policy takes effect, the Lease Agreement will need to be presented to Commission under the new terms.
