Background Information

The City of North Port has applied to the American Camp Association Character at Camp Planning Grant Program for the creation of a character-development curriculum for Parks and Recreation camp programs in the amount of $10,000.

The American Camp Association’s Character at Camp Grant Program is part of a six-year initiative funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc. to increase and expand character-development programming at camps throughout the United States. The Planning Grant pathway provides organizations with a one-year period for planning, training, and capacity building prior to the development and implementation of a full character-focused program or project.

The proposed project will develop a character-development framework for three camp programs focused on teamwork, confidence, and leadership. Planning activities will include gathering input from staff and campers, developing counselor and C.I.T. training curricula, and creating age-appropriate resources and activities intended to strengthen communication, interpersonal relationships, and leadership development.

This is a reimbursable grant, meaning the City will spend the grant funds first and then request reimbursement from the granting agency.

If awarded, the Grant Contract will be reviewed by the City Attorney to ensure that it is legally correct as to form.
