Recommended Action
Approve the sole source purchase of lift station pumps, control panels and associated components from Xylem Water Solutions USA, Inc., for a total of $159,692.00.
Background Information
Rehabilitation of Lift Station 82 is included in the scope of work for the FY 19-20 Lift Station Rehabilitation Project, which is currently in progress However, replacement of the station’s pumps and control panel was not part of the original scope of work. The existing pumps and control panel were designed to transport wastewater to the Pan American Wastewater Treatment Plant. Since the Southwest Wastewater Reclamation Facility (SWWWRF) in West Villages became operational, updates to the wastewater hydraulic model have shown that resizing of the pumps is needed. Due to the reduced distance the station must transport wastewater to the SWWWRF, the pumps are oversized for the station, causing short cycling that can lead to premature pump failure and an increased possibility of overflow. Replacement pumps, control panel and associated components are anticipated to be installed by the Contractor as part of the project.
In an effort to standardize equipment across all of the City’s lift stations, Utilities requires that only Flygt brand pumps, control panels, and associated components be installed. Xylem Water Solutions USA, Inc. is currently the only authorized distributor of Flygt products, services, and warranty work in the State of Florida.
Utilities is seeking Commission approval for the sole source purchase of Flygt brand lift station pumps, control panel, and associated components from Xylem Water Solutions USA, Inc., for a total of $159,692.00.
