Background Information
The Department of Public Works has received grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) through Sarasota County for use on the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 175000 carrying North Port Boulevard over the Cocoplum Waterway. The grant amount is $106,000.00, with $10,000.00 of that being retained by Sarasota County, resulting in $96,000.00 remaining for use on the project by the City of North Port.
A condition of this grant is to ensure that the contractor performs all work in compliance with the Davis-Bacon Act and Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Act. The City is not equipped to provide these services and so it is the desire of Public Works to obtain a CEI firm to administer the grant requirements, ensuring the contractor and work are in accordance with the grant requirements, and provide monthly reporting to the County. As an additional service, the CEI firm will provide general contractor oversight and inspection of completed work for compliance with project plans and specifications.
Agreement No. 2026-03 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
