Background Information

The City of North Port recently entered into a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Suncoast Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, Local No. 2546, I.A.F.F. for 2024-2027.  The CBA affects the North Port Firefighters’ Pension Fund and increases participation in the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) from up to 60 months to up to 96 months.

Ordinance No. 2025-06 amends Section 2-329 of the City Code relating to the DROP so it is consistent with the CBA.  The Actuary for the Firefighter’s Pension Plan Local Option Trust Fund has reviewed Ordinance No. 2025-06 and determined that its adoption will have no impact on immediate funding requirements.

Ordinance No. 2025-06 has been reviewed by the Interim City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
