Recommended Action

City Commission Options

Background Information
Awaken Outreach Center, Inc. supports individuals and families within the North Port community by providing access to food and essential resources. Through these services, the organization works to reduce food insecurity and alleviate financial hardship, contributing to the overall well-being of residents.
The current Lease Agreement is set to expire on June 8, 2026. The proposed First Amendment extends the lease term for an additional one-year period, through June 8, 2027, with the monthly lease rate of $400 remaining unchanged. This amendment is intended to maintain lease compliance and ensure continuity of services.
The proposed First Amendment does not include expansion into the adjacent space currently occupied by the North Port Senior Center. While Awaken Outreach Center, Inc. has expressed interest in expanding into that space, it is not currently available. The Senior Center’s lease, which expires June 30, 2026, is also scheduled for Commission consideration with a proposed two-month extension through August 31, 2026. At this time, it is unknown whether that extension will be approved.
When the adjacent space becomes available, staff anticipates bringing forward a new lease agreement for Awaken Outreach Center, Inc., for Commission consideration. The proposed Agreement would address the expansion, including any associated terms and fees.
Additionally, upon implementation of a City-wide standardized lease policy, this Agreement shall be brought back to the City Commission for further consideration to ensure compliance with the new policy requirements.
