Approve Resolution No. 2022-R-37 as presented.
Background Information
The Florida FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA), is a non-profit organization of 16,000+ senior law enforcement professionals dedicated to providing our communities, states, countries, and profession with the highest degree of law enforcement expertise, training, education, and information.
The FBINAA, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, and the North Port Police Department are hosting the 2022 FBINAA Re-Trainer Conference July 11-14, 2022, in Sarasota County. This is the 75th Anniversary Conference for the Florida FBA National Academy Associates. Approximately 150 to 200 active and retired FBI National Academy graduates from across the state of Florida attend these conferences. The Re-Trainer Conference will provide training and networking for attending staff members. The costs associated with hosting the training seminars for these conferences are usually generated through donations from state law enforcement agencies. The most common funding source used by agencies is donations of Forfeiture Funds, which is a permitted and acceptable use of Forfeiture Funds. The Florida Statutes support a process for designating forfeiture funds via a resolution.
Resolution No. 2022-R-37 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
