TITLE: Contract with Fibernet Direct Florida LLC for Internet Data Communication Services in the amount of $14,772.00 annually plus a $300.00 one-time implementation charge, and 3-Year Contract Term.
Recommended Action
Approve contract with Fibernet Direct Florida, LLC for Internet data communication services in the amount of $14,772.00 annually with a $300.00 One-time Implementation Charge, and 3-Year Contract Term.
Background Information
Sufficient Internet connectivity and capacity is becoming increasingly important for conducting business at the City. The City currently employs a Comcast Internet connection at City Hall, and it provides Internet connectivity for all City facilities. With the increasing strategic importance of reliable network connectivity, the General Services Department, IT division, has explored options for diversifying our Internet providers and increasing overall bandwidth capacity. With this proposal, the City would achieve vendor and geographic diversification of Internet connectivity, and double the bandwidth capacity. Internet diversification is important, because it would support continuity of access to mission critical applications and information during an outage. The proposed Internet service would be installed in the City’s disaster recovery center in the Sarasota County datacenter, and connect to City Hall via dedicated fiber between the two facilities.
The management of Sarasota County’s datacenter indicated that Comcast and Fibernet are the two Internet service providers that provide service in their facility, and we need to utilize a provider other than Comcast to achieve our goal of vendor diversification. Frontier can provide Internet service in that facility if an additional Metro-Ethernet circuit is added, which makes their offering more expensive than Fibernet.
The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the contract as to form.
