TITLE:                     Approve the Program Letter of Agreement Between the Florida State University College of Medicine EMS Fellowship Program, Located at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and the City of North Port, Florida, to Provide for First Year Medical Students to be Utilized for Pre-Hospital Medical Treatment, Protocol Development and Review, and Departmental Training at No Additional Cost to the City of North Port. 

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Program Letter of Agreement between the Florida State University College of Medicine EMS Fellowship Program, located at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and the City of North Port, Florida, to provide for first year medical students to be utilized for pre-hospital medical treatment, protocol development and review, and departmental training at no additional cost to the City of North Port.

 

Background Information

 

The Fire Rescue District is currently operating under an Agreement with Global Medical to provide Dr. Mark Johnson as the City of North Port Fire Rescue District’s Medical Director. This Program Letter of Agreement/Fellowship Agreement between the Florida State University College of Medicine EMS Fellowship, located at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) Main Campus, and the City of North Port provides an enhancement to our existing program by providing the following:

 

Ø                     A pathway for first year medical students to be utilized for pre-hospital medical treatment.

Ø                     Protocol development and review.

Ø                     Departmental training at no additional cost to the City of North Port. 

 

The sponsoring institution is SMH, and the Director of the Fellowship Program will be Dr. Marshall Frank of Global Medical. Dr. Frank and SMH will be responsible for the education and supervision of all medical students participating in the Fellowship Program.

 

The Program Letter of Agreement between the Florida State University College of Medicine EMS Fellowship Program, located at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and the City of North Port, Florida, has been approved by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
