TITLE: Presentation by and Proclamation for To Inform Families First
Recommended Action
Present Proclamation
Background Information
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Emergency Contact Information program allows all individuals with a Florida driver license or identification card to voluntarily provide emergency contact information online at www.flhsmv.gov or in a driver license office. Registering information in the State of Florida’s ECI system is a highly effective way to enhance the lives of Floridians by providing contact information to law enforcement officers during critical emergencies when every second counts. Florida’s ECI system is the first of its kind in the nation and more than 6 million Floridians have registered their contacts. To Inform Families First was created by Christine Olsen, after losing her daughter Tiffany in a fatal motorcycle crash in 2005, to ensure law enforcement officers have the information they need to notify loved ones when emergencies arise, thus providing families with added peace of mind. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and TIFF have joined together to encourage all Florida licensed drivers and identification card holders to register or update their information, which is stored in a secure database used only by law enforcement agencies.
A brief presentation will be provided by Christine Olsen to describe the program. Ms. Olsen was not able to attend the Special Meeting scheduled for September 7th and Commissioner McDowell requested that due to the timeliness of this item that a presentation be made at the regular Commission Meeting on September 12th.
