Approve the application to the Florida Local Government Cybersecurity Grant for managed Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool implementation and authorizing the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents after legal review, should the Grant be awarded to the City.

Background Information

The Florida Local Government Cybersecurity Grant is a competitive Grant Program to provide cybersecurity technical assistance and capabilities to Florida’s local governments to improve their cybersecurity posture and resiliency.

If awarded, the City’s Information Technology Division plans to implement a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool solution across the City of North Port cyber environment for continuous 24 hours per day 7 days per week monitoring that will improve incident detection and response time while also enhancing our cybersecurity decision making to maintain our expanding cyber environment.  A Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service extends our security operations team to achieve 24 hours per day 7 days per week threat detection and response.

The application was submitted on March 28, 2023.  The City will be notified of the selection or denial of the award in late Spring 2023.  If awarded, the State of Florida will purchase and provide mutually agreed upon cybersecurity capabilities to the City.  A Grant Contract will be awarded.  The City Attorney will review the Contract to ensure it is legally correct as to form.  Matching funds are not required.
