TITLE:                     Approve acceptance of Local Funding Initiative Requests, if awarded, for the expansion of water and sewer to Warm Mineral Springs in the amount of $875,000 and design and construction of a Public Safety Training Track in the amount of $750,000 and to authorize the City Manager to sign grant documents upon satisfactory legal review

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve acceptance of Local Funding Initiative Requests, if awarded, for the expansion of water and sewer to Warm Mineral Springs in the amount of $875,000 and design and construction of a Public Safety Training Track in the amount of $750,000 and to authorize the City Manager to sign grant documents upon satisfactory legal review.

 

Background Information

 

Two projects were identified for the 2020-2021 State of Florida Local Funding Initiative Requests which are submitted to Florida House and Senate members for support in the upcoming state budget:

 

1.                     Warm Mineral Springs water and sewer expansion: Provide central water and sewer services to Warm Mineral Springs buildings and surrounding vacant commercial lots. 

                     Total cost of project:                      $1,750,000

                     Request from State:                      $875,000

                     City matching funds:                      $875,000

 

2.                     Public Safety Training Track: Design and construction of new certified driving track at the City owned property on Price Boulevard. 

                     Total cost of project:                      $1,500,000

                     Request from State:                      $750,000

                     City matching funds:                      $750,000

 

The applications were submitted to the City’s state lobbyist, Greenburg Traurig, P.A. on October 22, 2019 for final review and submittal to the local legislators.  The requests were also submitted to Senator Gruters and Representative Buchanan. If awarded, grant funds will be available with the approval of the state budget on July 1, 2020.  The City Attorney will review the contracts for legal form.
