Recommended Action

Approve Contract No. 2021-39 - Replacement of Perimeter Fence at the Water Treatment Plant with Jay’s Fencing, LLC, in the amount of $225,177.00, with a contingency amount of $45,035.00 for a total cost of $270,212.00.

Background Information

The Utilities Department plans to replace the perimeter fence at the Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant on North Port Boulevard. This project includes the removal and disposal of the existing fence surrounding the plant, installing approximately 3,300 linear feet of new fencing, and replacing five gates.

Request for Bids No. 2021-39 - Replacement of Perimeter Fence at the Water Treatment Plant was advertised on September 7, 2021. Two Bids were received and opened on October 7, 2021. Staff reviewed the Bids, and the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder has been determined to be qualified. Based on this information, staff recommends the Award of Contract No. 2021-39 to Jay’s Fencing, LLC.

The contingency for this project was increased to 20% instead of the standard 10% because of the price volatility in the market. The vendor has notified the City of the significant potential for material price increases that would require use of the contingency.

Contract No. 2021-39 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
