TITLE:                     Approve the Application to the Florida Legislature for the Price Boulevard Mitigation and Mobility Project for Consideration in the Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations in the amount of $2.8 million, and Authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as Applicable Under the City Charter, to Execute all Funding Documents After Legal Review, Should the Grant be Awarded to the City of North Port.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Application to the Florida Legislature for the Price Boulevard Mitigation and Mobility Project for consideration in the Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations in the amount of $2.8 million, and authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents after legal review, should the grant be awarded to the City of North Port.

 

Background Information

 

During the City Commission Regular Meeting held on September 12, 2023, the Commission approved the following projects for Federal and State 2024 Appropriations Requests funding consideration:

 

Ø                     Price Boulevard Improvements

Ø                     Water and Sewer Service Expansion

Ø                     Bridge Improvements

Ø                     Water Control Structures

 

A request for continuation of funding for Price Boulevard Mitigation and Mobility Project was selected for State Appropriation consideration.  The total project cost is $63,273,994. The City is asking for the State to support the mitigation cost due to the vulnerability of the roadway to severe storms. To cover mitigation expenses, the City anticipates requesting $2.8 million per year over three years.

 

Requests are reviewed and submitted by members of the House and Senate for further consideration.  If the request is supported, it is then heard and recommended by different Legislative Committees during the legislative session.  If the Appropriation Request is approved, it will be included in the Governor’s Budget approved on July 1, 2024.

 

If awarded, the Grant from the Florida Legislature for the Price Boulevard Mitigation and Mobility Project for consideration in the Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations in the amount of $2.8 million will be reviewed by the City Attorney to ensure that it is legally correct as to form.
