Recommended Action
Discussion and possible direction regarding suggested agenda items for the 2025 Convocation of Governments based on the Interlocal Agreement for School Facility Planning.
Background Information
In 2003, the Sarasota County School Board and all five local governments (Sarasota County, City of North Port, City of Sarasota, City of Venice and the Town of Longboat Key) entered into an Interlocal Agreement for School Facility Planning. Each year from 2005 through 2009, and again from 2013 through 2024 all parties convened to review and amend the Interlocal Agreement for School Facility Planning as needed, and to consider better ways to collaborate regarding school facilities to achieve the following:
Ø Set direction.
Ø Discuss issues.
Ø Reach understanding concerning issues of mutual concern regarding coordination of land use and school facilities planning, including population and student growth; in-county migration; development trends; school needs; off-site improvements; school concurrency and joint use opportunities.
The next annual Convocation of Governments will be held on January 17, 2025.
The following are suggested topics which have been submitted for the 2025 Convocation of Governments:
Ø Update on Traffic Study for traffic light at North Port High School.
Ø Update on skills training and current training expansions at the Suncoast Technical College.
Ø Discussion on school safety.
Any suggested agenda items would need to be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools as soon as possible.
