Background Information
At its November 12, 2019 meeting, the City Commission directed staff to bring back an ordinance disbanding the Beautification and Tree/Scenic Highway Committee and adding subsection (c) of that committee’s powers and duties to the Environmental Advisory Board.
The Beautification and Tree/Scenic Highway Committee’s powers and duties are located in Section 4-140 of the Code of the City of North Port, Florida:
Sec. 4-140. - Powers and duties.
(a) The beautification and tree/scenic highway committee shall continue to exercise the powers, and carry out the duties and responsibilities that have been given by the city commission.
(b) The beautification and tree/scenic highway committee shall recommend grants to apply for and other sources of funding to accomplish the goals of the Florida Scenic Highway program.
(c) The beautification and tree/scenic highway committee shall advise the city commission, city commission-created advisory boards and the community on matters relating to tree planting and care, landscaping, beautification of public road rights-of-way and public places within the city, and the availability of special programs to assist the public.
