Background Information

On July 21, 2026 a motion was made by Commissioner Stokes, seconded by Commissioner Duval, to direct the City Manager to schedule a special meeting in August to act on the ordinance adopting the moratorium on data centers. The motion carried with Vice Mayor Langdon dissenting.

To allow for the completion of the Commission Chambers renovations on August 23, 2026, time for the City Attorney to draft the ordinance, and for most Commissioners (one Commissioner would not be able to attend) to be available it was determined that the last week in August would be the most feasible. This Commissioner would be available the previous week on August 19, 20, and 21 but another Commissioner is on vacation at that time.

There are no dates in August where all Commissioner are available. To not have to determine which Commissioner’s vacation to schedule the meeting around this agenda item has been created for Commission to select the date for the special meeting to take place.
