Recommended Action

Approve First Amendment to Contract No. 2023-28 for Road Rehabilitation Project to Preferred Materials, Inc., in the amount of $3,724,860.26, with a contingency of $670,474.84 for a total amount of $4,395,335.10, for an additional four (4) new road segments including Toledo Blade Boulevard Phase III, South Salford Subdivision, Tihal Terrace, and Hampshire Circle, for milling, resurfacing, and additional time to complete the requested work.

Background Information

During the Governing Body of the Road and Drainage District Meeting on September 26, 2023, the Commission approved Contract No. 2023-28 Road Rehabilitation Project with Preferred Materials, Inc. in the amount of $4,397,544.80, plus contingency in the amount of $791,558.06, for a total amount of $5,189,102.86.

The Contract consists of routine road rehabilitation for roads, stormwater improvements and milling and resurfacing.

The proposed First Amendment is for an additional four (4) road segments including Toledo Blade Boulevard Phase III (from Bobcat Trail to Hillsborough Boulevard), South Salford Subdivision, Tihal Terrace and Hampshire Circle. Work will include milling and resurfacing, and additional Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) as required. This first Amendment request is in the City’s best interest to execute because Preferred Materials, Inc. is already mobilized and currently doing work for the City of North Port. In addition, execution of this Amendment will reduce potential impacts from market fluctuation in labor and material pricing. Contingency may be used for rising costs with supportive documentation.

Approval of this First Amendment will bring the Contract total to $8,122,405.06, with a contingency balance of $1,462,032.90.

The First Amendment to Contract No. 2023-28 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
