Background Information

The City of North Port has applied to the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Subgrant for Highway Traffic Safety Funds for North Port Police Department Interstate Speed Enforcement in the amount of $100,000.

The FDOT State Safety Office awards subgrant opportunities to traffic safety partners that undertake priority programs and activities to improve traffic safety and reduce crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities. Grants may be awarded to address traffic safety deficiencies, for expansion of an ongoing activity or for development of a new program.

If awarded, this funding would be used to conduct high-visibility speed enforcement details on I-75 and to purchase mounted radar units for traffic unit vehicles.

This is a reimbursable grant, meaning the City will spend funds first and then request reimbursement from the granting agency.

If awarded, the Grant Contract will be reviewed by the City Attorney to ensure that it is legally correct as to form.
