TO:                                           Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission

FROM:                      Heather Faust, MMC, FCPC, City Clerk

TITLE:                     Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Amending City Commission Policy No. 2020-02 Ceremonial Items.

Recommended Action

Option 1: To direct the City Clerk to draft a Resolution amending Policy 2020-02 as presented.

City Commission Options

Option 1: To direct the City Clerk to draft a Resolution amending Policy 2020-02 as presented.

Pros: Provides a stricter criterion for the issuance of Keys to the City, holding the issuance to a higher honor.

Cons: Would hinder the issuance of a Key to the City for residents who have gone above and beyond in civic engagement and betterment to the quality of life within the City.

Option 2: To direct the City Clerk to draft a Resolution amending Policy 2020-02 as presented with the following changes (insert changes).

Pros: Allows Commission to modify the language presented to be more in line with the Commission’s vision for Keys to the City.

Cons: May allow Commission to modify the language to remain broad defeating the purpose of the issuance of a Key to the City being the highest honor.
