Recommended Action

Approve Work Assignment 2023-08 with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. in the amount of $200,160.00, for the Pan American Water Reclamation Facility Centrifuge Building and Monorail System Project.

Background Information

The Department of Utilities is planning to replace the previously existing aluminum structure that covered the centrifuge equipment, which was damaged beyond repair due to Hurricane Ian. The structure did not provide sufficient protection from the weather or include a means of removing the equipment for maintenance without disassembling the roof.  This project will replace the existing aluminum structure with one similar in design to the centrifuge structure at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility.  This will also include the installation of a monorail system which is a crane system allowing maintenance staff to move the centrifuge in and out of the building to perform repairs or replacements that would otherwise require the rental of external crane equipment to perform.  The following provides a chronological order of events pertinent to this project:

Ø                     December 13, 2022: Request for Letters of Interest (RLI) 2023-08 for the Pan American Water Reclamation Facility Centrifuge Building and Monorail System Project was issued to the eight firms under Category 1 of Continuing Contract 2020-58 to secure professional engineering services to design, bid and provide construction phase services for the project.

Ø                     January 6, 2023:  Three (3) Letters of Interest were received and evaluated.

Ø                     February 2, 2023:  Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. was selected to proceed with development of a scope and fee schedule.

After careful review of the scope and fee for the project, Utilities recommends Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. be awarded Work Assignment 2023-08 for this project, in the amount of $200,160.00.
