Recommended Action

City Commission Options
Option 1: Discussion regarding the City Manager’s annual performance evaluation, with action to approve a compensation adjustment.
Pros: Fosters a culture of recognition and appreciation, allows for competitive compensation for experience and knowledge, and allows for increased job satisfaction.
Cons: Encumbers funding that could be utilized elsewhere.
Option 2: Discussion regarding the City Manager’s annual performance evaluation with no compensation adjustment.
Pros: Allows funding to be utilized elsewhere.
Cons: Decrease in job satisfaction and competitive compensation.
Background Information
Pursuant to Article II. Section G.2. of the City Manager Employment Agreement, effective August 19, 2021:
Annual Evaluation. The City Commission must conduct a performance evaluation of Employee at a public meeting annually during the month of September, subject to a process, form, criteria, and format that are mutually agreed upon by Employee and the City Commission. The City Commission may consider compensation adjustments based on the result of Employee's annual performance evaluations.
Each Commissioner was provided an evaluation form, and those completed are attached to this staff summary; providing for feedback and scoring the City Manager in seven areas of performance using the City Commission approved form. The City Manager completed a self-evaluation.
